Participants will engage in hands-on practice with a variety of enteral feeding products in a supportive learning environment, ensuring they feel prepared to deliver the highest standard of care. Attendees will have the opportunity to prepare and administer feeding prescriptions through both a feeding pump and through bolus methods in our simulation practical. Our experienced trainers will guide your team through best practices, safety protocols and troubleshooting, ensuing confidence and best practice techniques through practical learning.

Course Content:

  • The digestive system anatomy and physiology

  • Considerations in nutrition and hydration

  • Reasons for feeding tubes

  • Practical: Gastrostomy and jejunostomy tube types

  • Stoma site care

  • Advance and rotate of PEG tubes

  • Importance of mouth care

  • Aspiration and ventilation of enteral feeding tubes

  • Practical: Checking the pH of aspirate

  • Practical: Changing the balloon water (if applicable)

  • Practical: Preparation of extension sets and application to mic-key buttons

  • Enteral feed prescriptions

  • Practical: Bolus enteral feed

  • Practical: Programming and setting up a continuous feed

  • Feeding pump alarms and troubleshooting

  • Complications with feeding tubes and emergency procedure
